Glenalbyn Montessori Preschool was founded in 2003. It offers a home from home environment where our children are at the heart of everything we do. We celebrate early childhood as a time of wonder and joy with endless opportunities for fun and learning through positive interactions and respectful relationships.
Our school operates a four-hour, part-time service providing for the needs of children between the ages of 2 years 8 months and 6 years. Our teachers are highly committed to the care and development of each child in their care.
It is our mission to provide a safe, stimulating, caring and fun environment where the development of the whole child is nurtured. Our teachers strive to promote confidence, independence, creativity and social development in the children helping to lay the foundations to deal with the challenges they might face in themselves, a larger school environment, the community and the world at large.
We acknowledge parents and carers as the child’s primary educators and work in partnership with our families to ensure the best possible experience for each child. We operate an open-door policy and communicate weekly via email to update our families on the children’s activities and attach images of the children at play.
We follow the Montessori Method and play-based approach and we continuously develop our practice in line with emerging research in the Early Years. We believe that learning occurs through meaningful experiences and must be fun for children at this age. Children attending our school have the freedom to play and learn together. The curriculum supports and provides for the development and growth of each individual child through loving, trusting and respectful relationships, and through discussion, exploration and play.
Aistear: the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework celebrates early childhood as a time of being, and of enjoying and learning from experiences as they unfold. The curriculum practiced at Glenalbyn Montessori follows the principles and themes of Aistear.
